Overview
Bodacious is a yellow sugary-enhanced (se) hybrid from Crookham, released in 1989 and still widely grown because it simply eats well across a wide range of climates. The 8-inch ears carry around 16 to 18 rows of juicy golden kernels that keep their sweetness for a while after harvest. Plants stand about 7 feet and carry resistance to Stewart's wilt, which helps in areas where flea beetles spread the disease. Sow an inch deep once the soil is properly warm, at least 65F, in a block of short rows. Give it nitrogen and steady water from tasseling through ear fill, then pick when the silks have turned brown and a pressed kernel gives milky juice. A good midseason pick for a gardener who wants reliable yellow corn with modern sweetness.
