Overview
Hansel F1 won the AAS national award in 2008 and remains a favorite mini eggplant. Compact, upright plants of 24 to 36 inches bear glossy dark purple, elongated fruit in clusters at the nodes rather than singly, which is why yields are so high. Pick at 3 to 4 inches for tender skin, white creamy flesh, almost no seeds and no bitterness; fruit can stretch much longer but toughens. First harvest arrives roughly 55 days after transplant, well ahead of large-fruited types, and staking is not needed. Works nicely in a large container.
