Overview
Anuenue is a French Batavia that the University of Hawaii introduced in 1987 for tropical and subtropical conditions. It forms a glossy green head that looks like a small iceberg at maturity, with a well-packed pale heart and no bitterness even as heat builds. Its seed germinates in warm soil where most lettuce goes dormant, making it a bridge variety for late spring and late summer sowings. Growth is slow, so late July to early August sowings suit it. Sow 1/4 inch deep, thin to 8 to 12 inches, and cut when the center fills. About 50 days.
