Overview
Early Prolific Straightneck, from Ferry-Morse Seed Company of Detroit, is the classic yellow summer squash (listed here with winter types) and a 1938 AAS winner. Selected from Summer Crookneck, it is a distinct bush type: very early, productive, with smooth, straight, light lemon-yellow fruit that has no curve at the blossom end. Widely adapted. Direct sow after frost in fertile soil and pick at 6 to 8 inches; oversized fruit gets tough and seedy. In hot regions, spring and fall plantings sidestep peak heat and vine borer pressure.
