Overview
Helios is an heirloom from the former Czechoslovakia with olive-shaped roots in a pale golden-yellow skin over crisp white flesh. The flavor is clean and only gently peppery, in line with other fast spring radishes, and the unusual color earns it a place on relish trays and in mixed radish rows. Treat it as a cool-season crop: sow shallowly as early as the ground can be worked, or in late summer for fall, thin to about 2 inches, and pull once roots are near an inch across before they hollow. Re-sow every two to three weeks.
