Overview
Gold Rush is Petoseed's golden zucchini hybrid (PSR 1876, 1978) and a 1980 All-America Selections winner. The fruit is a smooth, cylindrical, golden yellow with flat ribs and a contrasting kelly-green stem, 7 to 8 inches at picking, and the slender white flesh resists bulbing at the blossom end. It tastes like a good green zucchini, mild and slightly sweet, but the color makes it stand out in a mixed platter or on the grill. Plants are compact, upright bushes around 18 to 24 inches tall with a 3 to 4 foot spread, so ordinary spacing works. Direct sow after frost in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. In very hot regions, spring and fall crops do better than a midsummer planting, when mildew and heat cut production. Widely adapted; (An unrelated Rupp Seeds pumpkin shares the name.)
