Sunny Delight is a yellow scallop squash bred by Jose Gomez and released through Seminis-Petoseed in 1997 (code PS 42395). The small, saucer-shaped fruit measure about 2 1/2 to 3 inches and weigh around 75 grams, and unlike many yellow pattypans the blossom end stays yellow with no green scar. Plants are semi-bush with an open habit that stands upright, so the fruit are easy to find. It matures about a week ahead of Sunburst, its closest comparison, and is adapted to both home gardens and fresh-market growers. A quick, tidy pattypan for anyone who likes to harvest young.
