Overview
Silver King is essentially an earlier, sugary-enhanced (se) take on Silver Queen, bred by Sweet Corn Genetic Service and sold through Charter from 1973. It matures around 82 days with white ears 8 inches long and 2 across, carrying 16 to 18 rows, good fill and medium green husks. Plants are about 6 feet and resist root lodging and dry-weather stress, with good tolerance to northern leaf blight as well as rust and Stewart's wilt. It adapts from the South to the north-central states. The se gene gives a longer harvest window and better sugar retention than its famous parent.
