Overview
Blue Jade is a genuinely dwarf sweet corn, only 2 to 4 feet tall, which makes it the rare corn that fits a container of 15 gallons or more or a small raised bed. Each open-pollinated plant bears 3 to 6 small ears of steel-blue kernels that turn a jade-blue when cooked; the silks are blue and the husks show blue streaks. Flavor at the milk stage is sweet and tender, though the sugar converts quickly, so eat it right away. Even a dwarf corn needs a block planting for pollination, so thin to 6 to 9 inches within a block. Maturity is around 70 to 80 days. Dried ears are decorative.
