Overview

Indigo Apple came out of Oregon State University's Indigo breeding program (Dr. Jim Myers), a cross of Indigo Rose with a red cherry tomato. The 2 to 4 ounce fruit develops heavy purple pigment on the sun-facing side while still green, deepening to nearly true black, with the shaded side staying red and the flesh inside red. Flavor is sweet and well balanced. Plants are indeterminate and need staking, with harvest at about 70 to 75 days. Plant in full sun; the anthocyanin color only shows where light reaches the skin.
