Overview
Galeux d'Eysines is the French heirloom nicknamed the peanut pumpkin for the corky, sugar-crystal-like warts that cover its salmon-peach skin. Fruit is round and slightly flattened, 10 to 15 pounds, with moist, sweet orange flesh of velvety texture that is excellent in soups and sauces. It needs a long warm season and sprawling room, so sow after frost in full sun on rich, free-draining ground, water deeply and feed for size. Cut once the rind has hardened and let it cure somewhere warm and dry before storage. Beautiful on a porch in fall as well as in the kitchen.
