Overview
Metro PMR is a butternut hybrid developed with Cornell University for strong powdery mildew resistance, which keeps the vines green and productive through the humid late summer when ordinary butternuts collapse. Compact vines set smallish, bottle-shaped tan fruit of 2.5 to 3.5 pounds with dense, sweet, deep orange flesh. Sow directly into warm soil after frost and allow room to spread. Let the rind harden fully, cure one to two weeks in a warm, ventilated spot, and the squash stores for several months. About 105 days.
