Overview
Round Black Spanish, also called Noir Gros Rond d'Hiver, is a winter radish with a round to turnip-like root about 4 inches across. The skin is rough, black, and corky, hiding crisp white flesh with a pungent bite that softens with cooking. As a winter type it needs a longer, cooler run than spring radishes: plant it from midsummer to late summer for an autumn harvest, thin to 4 to 6 inches, and keep the soil evenly moist to avoid woody roots. It stores very well through winter.
