Overview
Oregon Spring comes from James Baggett's breeding program at Oregon State University, developed from the cold-adapted Russian variety Severianin and released in the mid 1980s for the short, cool seasons of western Oregon and Washington. It sets nearly seedless fruit under cool temperatures when most tomatoes drop their blossoms. The open-pollinated, determinate plant stays compact and needs minimal staking. Fruit is red, about four inches and six to seven ounces, with a mild, low-acid taste. Resistant to Verticillium race 1 and noted for virus resistance. Plant it out a bit earlier than heat-loving types.
