Overview
Black Plum is an open-pollinated Russian heirloom of the plum or paste type, but small: two to four ounces, about three inches long, ripening to deep mahogany-brown on the sun-exposed side. The flavor is rich and winey, more like a large black tomato than a cherry, and the meaty fruit is good fresh, roasted, or dried. Vines are indeterminate and productive across the season, so stake or cage them. It copes with both cool and hot conditions. About 70 to 80 days from transplant; late blight resistance is unconfirmed.
