Overview
Silvery Fir Tree is a Russian heirloom you can pick out from across the garden: its leaves are finely cut and ferny, more like carrot foliage than a normal tomato, and they carry a gray-green, silvery cast that gives the variety its name. Plants are determinate and dwarf, around two feet tall (24 to 30 inches), and need no staking, which makes them a natural for containers and small beds where the foliage doubles as an ornamental. They are very early, about 58 to 65 days from transplant, and ripen most of the red, round, small to medium fruit within a few weeks. Flavor is good for such an early determinate type. A second sowing in late summer can give a fall crop in mild climates.
