Overview
Pantano Romanesco is a traditional Roman heirloom which takes its name from Pantano d'Ardea, a district near Rome. The medium to large fruit is deeply ribbed and flattened, deep red to red-pink with an almost purple tint, and the flavor is rich and complex, valued in Roman kitchens both fresh and in sauce. Vines are indeterminate with regular leaves, productive and well adapted to heat, which suits warm regions. Stake or cage as they grow and let fruit ripen fully on the vine. Wikipedia lists maturity at 70 to 80 days and calls it a heavy-yielding all-round tomato.
