Overview

Mule Team belongs to a small group of Americana-named heirlooms bred by the same hobbyist who created Box Car Willie; the seed was nearly lost, turning up decades later in glass jars, and tomato collector Dr. Carolyn Male grew it out. The vines are sturdy, drought-tolerant indeterminates that bear plenty of round to globe-shaped, bright red fruit of 8 to 12 ounces with a rich, juicy, zippy-sweet flavor, and quality stays consistent from first pick to frost instead of fading in late-summer heat. Listed as resistant to disease and stress as well as drought. Stake or cage and start indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost. A hearty all-purpose slicer without heirloom fussiness.
