Overview
Firminio's Plum is a family heirloom paste tomato that came to a Middletown, New York garden through Italian immigrant Firminio Amitrano and has been kept going by his granddaughter Marilyn since his death in 1980. The family believes the seed arrived from relatives in Italy along with shipments of olive oil, though the original source is not known. Plants are semi-determinate and stay fairly compact, bearing small plum-shaped fruit with a pleasant tomato flavor and a drier texture. That dryness is exactly what you want in a sauce tomato, and the fruits are also superb roasted whole with olive oil, garlic, salt and rosemary.
