Overview
Beit Alpha, sometimes written 'Beth Alpha', is the Middle Eastern heirloom behind the whole class of thin-skinned, burpless cucumbers. The plants are parthenocarpic, setting smooth, mild, bitter-free fruit without pollination, and they perform in both greenhouse and open-field settings. Direct sow once the soil reaches about 70F, or start indoors three weeks ahead, and train the vines up a trellis so the fruit stays straight and clean. Pick at 4 to 6 inches, before the deep green skin loses its tenderness, and keep picking to keep the vines going. Since there is no need to peel, it is a natural for salads and snacking. About 60 days.
