Overview
Black Krim is an open-pollinated heirloom from the Crimean peninsula on the Black Sea. The beefsteak fruit, around 10 to 12 ounces, has iridescent purple skin with greenish-black shoulders, flesh of a reddish-brown tone, and a rich taste with a slightly salty edge. It sets fruit well in heat, though total yield is on the low side. Indeterminate vines need a sturdy stake or cage; prune suckers for airflow and water evenly to reduce cracking. Harvest when the shoulders have taken on their dusky color. About 80 days from transplant; late blight resistance has been noted but not confirmed.
