Overview
Matina is a German heirloom from the Quedlinburg area, traditionally used as a stewing and salad tomato and one of the earliest indeterminates. Large potato-leaf vines carry clusters of red, two-inch fruit of four to six ounces, a little tart and on the seedy side, with genuine tomato flavor that many early types lack. It is resistant to early blight. Stake or cage the vines, which reach three to four feet or more. Its main value is a flush of ripe fruit well before main-season varieties, so start it early.
