Overview

Yellow Brandywine carries the Brandywine family's potato-leaf foliage and big, meaty, irregular fruit, but ripens golden yellow with a sweeter, milder, lower-acid flavor than the pink or red strains. Fruit is around a pound, slightly ribbed, with a blossom-end scar. The original came from Charles Knoy of Indiana and was developed by Craig LeHoullier in 1991; the Platfoot strain from Ohio yields more and better-looking fruit. Vines are indeterminate and need a stake or cage from planting. Late, about 90 days, and best for fresh eating since low acid limits canning safety.
