Overview
Rose de Berne comes from the Bern region of Switzerland and has a reputation in France, Germany and Switzerland as one of the finest-tasting pink tomatoes, sometimes called Europe's answer to Brandywine. The smooth, globe-shaped fruit weighs around 5 ounces, with a thin but reasonably durable deep-rose skin, creamy flesh and a rich sweet-tart balance. It resists cracking well. Vines are vigorous and indeterminate, climbing 6 to 8 feet, so stake firmly from planting. Start seed indoors 6 to 8 weeks ahead of the last frost and give it a long warm season for heavy yields. Also sold as Rosa de Berne.
