Overview
Delicious is an old Burpee introduction in the Brandywine mold, grown mainly for enormous fruit: one of its tomatoes held the Guinness record for heaviest tomato for close to thirty years. The scarlet-red beefsteak fruit is meaty, crack-resistant and often over a pound, borne in clusters on vigorous indeterminate vines. Resistance to Fusarium and Verticillium wilt is listed, with maturity at about 80 days. To grow giants, cage or stake heavily, prune to a few leaders, water deeply and evenly, and make sure calcium is available to keep cracking and blossom end rot in check. Pick it when size and classic rich flavor matter more than earliness.
