Overview
Mr. Stripey is a large American bicolor beefsteak heirloom, not to be mixed up with the small English striped tomato Tigerella that sometimes carries the same name. The flattened, irregular fruit runs from 10 to 20 ounces and can reach two pounds, with a yellow to gold skin marked in an abstract pattern of red or pink stripes, and the sliced interior repeats the yellow and red pattern. Flavor is sweet, mild and low in acid with a fruity, melon-like quality. Vines are indeterminate and vigorous, needing sturdy support all season. Maturity is about 80 days, and because the fruit is so big, start seed early and plant out as soon as it is safe. Resistance to late blight is listed. The thin skin calls for gentle handling.
