Overview
Super Fantastic is a Burpee F1 hybrid released in 1978, from the breeding program of Dr. Elwyn Meader, and one of the most widely sold hybrid tomatoes of the late twentieth century. It offered early maturity (about 70 to 80 days), vigorous growth, resistance to Verticillium and Fusarium wilt, and large fruit commonly 12 to 16 ounces, and it is still on seed racks today. The fruit is classic red beefsteak: round to slightly oblate, firm, meaty, thick-walled with few seeds, made for sandwiches and burgers. Vines are indeterminate and carry heavy crops, so stake or cage right after transplanting. It has some heat tolerance and keeps setting a little longer into a hot spring than some beefsteaks.
