Overview
Red Brandywine is the red-fruited member of the famous Brandywine family, a Pennsylvania Amish heirloom on indeterminate vines. The rosy-red beefsteak fruits are deeply lobed, 1/2 to 1 pound, sweet and low in acid, and at their best sliced fresh. Start seed indoors about six weeks before the last frost, transplant deeply to build roots, and give the large, sprawling vines tall stakes or heavy cages. Mulch and consistent water help the big fruits avoid blossom-end rot and cracking. Harvest begins around 80 days from transplant.
