Overview
A pickling cucumber for tight spaces, Pick a Bushel F1 was bred by Seeds by Design with W. Atlee Burpee & Co. and took a 2014 AAS regional award for the Heartland and Great Lakes. The semi-bush plant stands only 10 to 12 inches tall with a spread near 24 to 26 inches, so it fits patios, raised beds and large pots, though a stake or small trellis helps keep picking easy. Cylindrical medium-green fruits run 3 to 6 inches and 2 to 4 ounces, crisp and sweet, with 18 to 20 per plant over a concentrated season, handy when you want one big canning batch. Resistant to CMV, scab and MMV. Direct sow after frost with 8 to 10 inch spacing, water moderately, and pick every day or two at the size your pickle style needs.
