Vining Fruit Color (Harvest): Dark green, semi glossy
Overview
Diva is a 2002 AAS national winner from Johnny's Selected Seeds, a Beit Alpha style slicer that sets fruit parthenocarpically, so production stays steady even without pollinators. Fruits are slender, semi-glossy dark green cylinders 6 to 8 inches long with slightly tapered ends, thin smooth skin that needs no peeling, and sweet flesh with no bitterness and few if any seeds. Vines spread 5 to 6 feet and resist scab, angular leaf spot and both powdery and downy mildew. Transplanting is recommended: start 2 seeds per cell, germinate at 75 to 85 F, and set out 20 to 25 day-old plants 2 feet apart for harvest around 32 days later; direct sowing takes about 58 days once soil hits 70 F. Pick fruits on the small side every other day.
