Fanfare hybrid took a 1994 AAS national award for Petoseed/Seminis and remains a compact vining slicer. Plants stay about 6 inches tall while spreading 2 to 2.5 feet, and they need no staking. Fruits are straight cylinders 8 to 9 inches long, about 10 ounces, tapering slightly at the blossom end, with good flavor and less bitterness than older types. It carries resistance to anthracnose, angular leaf spot, CMV, scab and powdery mildew. Sow directly into the garden in full sun at 24-inch spacing and expect first fruits around 63 days from seed.
