Overview

Marketer won an All-America Selections award in 1943 and comes from Associated Seed Growers of New Haven, Connecticut, who introduced it in 1942. It is a cross of Straight 8 and Vaughn, and it inherits the straight, trim slicing fruit of the Straight 8 line. Fruits are dark green and very even in shape and color, which made Marketer widely grown by market growers in the years after its release. It is a heavy producer. As an open-pollinated slicing cucumber from the 1940s, it has no listed disease resistances, so keep the plants well spaced and watered at the base to hold off mildew. Grow it on a trellis or let the vines run; either way pick fruit regularly to keep new ones coming.
