Overview

Armenian, also called Yard Long Armenian or snake cucumber, is botanically a muskmelon (Cucumis melo var. flexuosus) grown and eaten as a cucumber. The open-pollinated vines produce very long, ribbed, light green fruits; pick them before 24 inches long or 2.5 inches wide, ideally at 12 to 18 inches for best texture. Skin is very thin and edible, flesh is white, mild and faintly melon-like, without bitterness, and seeds are barely present in young fruit. It stands up to heat far better than true cucumbers and keeps producing through hot Gulf Coast summers. Direct sow after last frost in warm, well-drained soil in full sun and trellis for straighter fruit. About 50 days.
