Overview

Calypso is a hybrid pickling cucumber from a gynoecious by monoecious cross, so a pollenizer is included and fruit set is concentrated into a short window, convenient for big pickle batches. Fruits are blocky, slightly tapered, dark green and white-spined, with thick crisp walls; pick 1.5 to 2 inches for whole baby pickles or 3 to 4 inches for fresh pickle use. Resistance includes STM, scab, CMV, both mildews and anthracnose races 1 and 2. Direct sow 1 inch deep after frost when soil is above 65 F, trellis for airflow and straighter fruit, and harvest every day or two since fruit left on the vine slows production. About 50 days.
