Overview
Cornito Rosso is a compact F1 relative of Corno di Toro Red and Carmen, giving the same sweet, tapered horn shape in a smaller 5 to 6 inch fruit about 1 to 2 inches wide. The sturdy plants begin early and keep producing into fall, with green fruit at around 60 days and red at roughly 80. Fruit turns a glossy deep red about a week after its yellow sibling, Cornito Giallo, and hangs well on the plant. Thin-walled and very sweet, it can be eaten out of hand or pan-fried whole. Start seed 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost and give it full sun; a light stake helps when the plant is loaded.
