Overview
Islander, a Johnny's F1 hybrid, is grown as much for the show as for the eating. Medium-size, 3-lobed, thick-walled bells start out a light lavender at 56 days, then pass through violet and yellow with orange streaks before finishing a rich dark red at about 81 days, so a plant often carries several colors at once. It resists tobacco mosaic virus. Plants are strong and medium tall, well suited to containers and patio beds where the color can be enjoyed. The fruit is mild and crisp at every stage; keep picking through the colors so the plant sets new fruit.
