Overview
Sahuaro is a hybrid New Mexico-style chile from Seminis-Petoseed, bred by John Bill and released in 2000. Sturdy upright plants set long, somewhat flattened pods of 7 to 9 inches with thick, light green walls, and yields are high in both open field and greenhouse. Heat is mild at around 500 Scoville units, so it is a roasting and stuffing chile rather than a fiery one. Green pods are ready in about 68 days from transplant; wait to roughly 90 days for full red. It carries resistance to tobamovirus (tobacco mosaic), and the breeding program targeted North Africa and Israel, which tells you it handles warm, dry conditions well.
