Overview
Staddon's Select is a 1963 bell pepper from breeder Bruce Staddon, sold by the Joseph Harris Co. and long a standard in the eastern United States. Tall, bushy plants set large glossy dark green fruit with three or four lobes and medium flesh that turns a good red. Its reputation rests on dependability: it yields early and keeps producing under poor conditions where fussier bells stall, and it resists tobacco mosaic virus with possible tolerance to bacterial leaf spot. Pennwonder and Wonderbeater are the comparable varieties. First fruit come in about 60 days. A good open-pollinated bell for difficult seasons.
