Overview
Famous for sheer size, Sakurajima Mammoth is a round Japanese daikon bred and sold by Takii. The pure white globe is best pulled at around 10 inches across, but left alone it can swell to 100 pounds. Flavor stays mild and sweet even at large size. It matures late, so plan it as an autumn-into-winter crop, and in mild regions it makes a good overwintering radish. Deep, well-loosened soil and generous spacing are needed to let the root expand.
