Overview

Ferris Wheel is a pink beefsteak heirloom released commercially in 1894 by Wisconsin seedsman John A. Salzer. It almost disappeared until Craig LeHoullier regrew old seed in the 1990s and brought it back. Fruit is large and slightly flattened, from 8 ounces up to 2 pounds, with shoulders that blush as they ripen; the flesh is juicy and mildly sweet, with a flavor some describe as intense. Wispy regular-leaf indeterminate vines grow tall and need sturdy staking over a 90-day season.
