Overview
Lipstick, bred by Rob Johnston at Johnny's (1987), is a small pimento-type sweet pepper that many gardeners rate among the best tasting they grow. The cone-shaped fruit is about 4 inches long, medium to thick fleshed, deep green at 53 days and ripening to a glossy rich red with an intensely sweet flavor. Plants are compact, so it works in a 5-gallon container as well as in the bed, and it resists tobacco mosaic virus. Its early maturity helps in short seasons, and pimento types tend to keep setting in summer heat where large bells stall. Red-ripe fruit is superb roasted, and the thick walls suit stuffing.
