Overview
Lemon Drop is a Peruvian heirloom Capsicum baccatum with bright yellow, crinkled, conical pods about 2.5 inches long and half an inch wide. The heat is real, around 30,000 to 50,000 Scoville units, and comes with a clear lemon-citrus flavor and aroma. Plants reach about 2 feet and need a long season, roughly 100 days to ripe fruit, so sow 8 to 10 weeks ahead of the final frost with bottom heat near 80F, since baccatum types germinate slowly. Stake tall plants and pick fully yellow. Superb in hot sauces, salsas and dried as a citrusy powder.
