Overview
Balloon is the unusual winged chile known by many names, among them Bishops Hat, Aji Flor, Pimenta Cambuci, Orchid and Peri Peri. Plants are tall, 3 to 4 feet, and set 3-inch fruit with three or four flat-tipped wings around the base. The wings are sweet and crisp while the central body carries the heat, so one fruit gives both. It needs a long season, about 90 days from transplant, and does well in a large container. Start early and stake tall plants.
