Overview
Habanada was bred at Cornell University and developed further by Row 7 Seed Company with a single goal: keep everything about a habanero except the capsaicin. The small lantern-shaped fruit ripens from green to golden orange and carries the full fruity, floral, tropical aroma of a habanero, yet can be eaten raw by the handful. Start seed 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost under lights, since it germinates slowly like other chinense types, and transplant into warm, fertile soil in full sun. Plants keep producing over a long season into fall. Harvest at full orange for the strongest flavor and use it fresh in salsas, salads and sauces.
